CAN OTCH SHAANDIS SILVER SUNGLOW AM CDX TT

August 18, 1983 - 1996
Sire: Grand Winston
Dam: Shandhi's Key Largo [ View Pedigree ]

I purchased Shaandis in October 1983 from my husband's cousins who just happened to have bred their pet cocker. While Shaandis didn't have champion parents, her dam was line bred on Am CH Artru Action.

We participated in the Dryden Dog Fanciers Club's very first show in September 1984, where Shaandis won Winner's Bitch for 1 point (this was back when the varieties were shown separately in Canada). Being very much a novice I thought this wasn't a good enough win, so I didn't pursue showing Shaandis in conformation any further and instead started training in obedience.

In December 1986 we attended our first Northwinds Show in Winnipeg, Manitoba where Shaandis obtained her Canadian Companion Dog title in one weekend and was just a mark away from a Dog World Award. Shaandis also won High Scoring Cocker at the American Cocker Spaniel Club of Manitoba's 2nd Specialty Show.

Shaandis obtained her Canadian Companion Dog Excellent title in May of 1988 and became #4 Obedience Cocker in Canada for 1988.

We then ventured to Minnesota and Shaandis obtained her American Companion Dog title in November 1990.

In November 1991 we went back to Minnesota and Shaandis obtained her American Companion Dog Excellent title and placed 2nd in the Open B class.

In June of 1992 Shaandis obtained her third leg of her Canadian Utility Dog title and automatically became a Canadian Obedience Trial Champion!

Shaandis ended 1992 as Canada's #3 Obedience Cocker!

We also ventured to North Dakota where Shaandis competed for her American Utility Dog title, but didn't end up obtaining it.

Shaandis also took time out for two litters, both were sired by Can BPIS CH Kataxin's First Offender.

Shaandis is the dam of Can CH Shaankata's Ramblin' Red Am/Can CD TT and Shaankata's Shady Lady Can CD TT.

Shaandis consistently scored in the 190's and won many High in Class awards. However an all breed High in Trial always eluded her even when scoring 199.5, some one else scored the perfect 200.

Shaandis continued to compete in obedience until she was ten years old and continued to win High in Class in both Open B and Utility classes. Shaandis also won High Scoring Cocker at the Thunder Bay Cocker Spaniel Club's Specialty show in 1993 at the age of ten.

Shaandis was eyes slt/pra permanently clear at age eight, however she lost one eye due to glaucoma when she was eleven.

Shaandis loved to please and did all that was asked of her and more! She was an awesome mouse hunter and passed her mousing abilities on to our Teka.

Shaandis had a beautiful head and expression with well laid-back shoulders and solid level topline (which is what the standard called for then), however she was lacking in the coat department.

Regrettably, Shaandis never was shown enough in conformation to obtain her Champion title. Had she been shown she certainly would have obtained it and would have become a dual champion.

A very special thank you to Leslie Snell of Freewinds German Shepherds for getting me started in conformation and obedience competition and for all your help along the way!
